SIU Credit Hour Equivalency Poll

Welcome to the SIU CHE poll.

UPDATE 16 JANUARY 2013: The departments of cinema and photography, foreign languages and literatures, and physics were all successful in refusing a designee meeting and garnering a meeting with the provost.

UPDATE 15 JANUARY 2013: The department of theater rejected the offer of a meeting with a designee and requested to meet with the provost. Through this action alone, they secured a meeting with the provost. This then is an option for departments that have been offered a meeting with a designee.

UPDATE 3 JANUARY 2013: If departments want "feedback" from the provost on rejected amendments, they must explicitly request it.

Example:

Department of X

  • Dean: initial meeting (9/13/12); approved upon revision (9/20/12)
  • Provost: rejected (12/14/12); request for meeting with designee (12/14/12); dept plans to ask for meeting with Provost

Kinesiology
-original policy approved by department, May 2012
-meeting with Dean 28 September 2012
-Dean was supportive but then in an email said the Provost wouldn't support banking
-met with Dean individually 15 October 2012 to try and understand his position because he was supportive during the meeting. Still unclear.
-submitted directly to Provost
-rejected by Provost
-meeting with Provost Designee DiLalla scheduled for 15 February 2013
-feedback received on 10 February 2013 [feedback posted on Google Drive]
-meeting completed 15 February, not much new. We thought he learned more about us than we did new about their position.
-The CBA of the Connecticut State University System is very interesting and offers a possible solution to the "banking" issue. http://goo.gl/3GtB0 Article 10.2, 10.4, and then 10.5 sets up a system to deal with Over and Underloads.
[-not Kinesiology here, but responding to Kin: I'm not sure either admin or FA will go for this. 10.5 sets up a system whereby overloads can be "cashed in," which admin cannot approve, and alternately differential teaching loads of underloads, which FA cannot approve. I don't think it'd be possible to get both to agree to both—rather, I think both are dealbreakers…?]
